2016 sees the twelfth year of the annual event dedicated to contemporary art. Organised on a national level by AMACI (the Association of Italian Contemporary Art Museums), the 24 members of the association, and around a thousand venues throughout Italy, will be staging exhibitions, events and workshops to present new ideas and artists.
The image for the 2016 event, the work of artist Emilio Isgrò, is entitled Preghiera per l’Europa (Prayer for Europe). The work uses black lines to cancel out Europe and extend its confines to encompass all the countries around the Mediterranean. The image reflects on the geographical, political and cultural divisions that are increasingly fuelling nationalist sentiment and movements in the current period.
The programme for Contemporary Art Day in Museion is based on a European project entitled Museum as Toolbox, and is dedicated entirely to young people. Museum as Toolbox focuses on young people, their ideas and visions, with an eye to fostering cooperation between different cultural players in Europe, with participating museums in Zagreb, Graz and Lodz.
In Museion on Contemporary Art Day the young people taking part in the project will work alongside our mediators in our tried and tested “art dialogues”, helping to answer visitors’ questions and queries. And in the afternoon, visits to the current exhibitions will be accompanied by live music performed by the young students from the Conservatorio Claudio Monteverdi. The topic of communicating with young people in museums is also taken up by Luca Melchionna (journalist and museum consultant), in a presentation that focuses on young people’s relationship with social media.
