Francesco Vezzoli
MUSEO MUSEION

Exhibition of sculptures: until 30/01/2016 – 16/05/2016
Exhibition of Museion Collection: until 06/11/2016

Double project for Francesco Vezzoli at Museion: as guest curator, presenting an exhibition of the Museion collection, and as artist, with the first complete retrospective of his sculptural work.

Museion’s 2016 programme opens with an exceptional double exhibition. Francesco Vezzoli, one of the most internationally renowned Italian artists, is curating an exhibition on the Museion collection as guest curator, and presenting, as an artist, the first retrospective of his sculptural work. EntitledMuseo Museion, the double show is set to take over the whole of the Bolzano venue. It opens with an imposing wallpaper based on a painting by Giovanni Paolo Pannini, which immerses the ground floor of Museion in the atmosphere of an eighteenth-century picture gallery.

Short-circuiting the history of art, he reinterprets part of the Museion collection by making it interface with masterpieces from Western art history kept in major European and American museums.

In the role of curator, the artist is presenting the first themed exhibition of the Museion collection, linking it up to historical masterpieces. By relating the collection to the past, Vezzoli forges new, multiple levels of interpretation of the works and reflects on the explicit and hidden connections in art and the interpretative frameworks ingrained in its system.
