Museion takes part too on Sunday 16th May

“The Future of Museums: Recover and Reimagine” is the theme of this year’s International Museum Day that will take place on Sunday May 16th. In its 2021 edition, this special day promoted by ICOM – the International Council of Museums from all around the world focuses on reimagining the museums of the future to face the challenges of the present.

Museion is taking part in this event by offering free admission for the whole day to the “Here to stay” exhibition (10am – 6pm), Conversations about art (2-6pm) and a Mail art workshop dedicated to families. The workshop, organized by Roberta Pedrini (Museion), explores the theme of distance and “non physicality” that has characterized the recent period, with regard to the museum too. Mail art involves creating small postal format artworks (postcards or letters) which are then mailed, as the name suggests, to another artist. The “Here to Stay” exhibition has several examples of this artistic process that is widely used by the artist Berty Skuber. For International Museum Day, the public can experiment personally with mail art by creating their own postcards on which to write a thought, greeting, wish or something else that can inspire their future or that of a friend or family member. The postcards will then be sent with stamps provided by Museion. This initiative will encourage the diffusion of artistic experiences beyond the walls of the museum.

The workshop will take place outdoors near Museion, beside the Talvera river in three sessions, each with a maximum of ten participants. Reservations are required and can be made by writing to visitorservices@museion.it or phoning 0471 223413 during Museion opening hours. In case of bad weather, the workshop will be held at the Passage.

In the afternoon, from 2 to 6pm, “Conversations about art” will be held, featuring expert mediators who will offer in-depth information about the artworks on display and answer queries and questions about contemporary art in general (in Italian and German).

Please remember that to visit Museion you will need to show a Corona Pass.
