Maps: from the Museion Collection

The catalogue published for the exhibition Maps, hosted in Museion Passage, featured a critical essay by Andreas Hapkemeyer and rich photographic documentation of the works and artist books selected from the Museion collections. The show revolved around works by contemporary artists presenting their own idea of map – a real or imaginary registration of the physical world through which they conveyed ideas ranging from the political (Joseph Beuys and Öyvind Fahlström) to the spiritual (Gianpietro Fazion), the poetic (Dick Higgins and Luciano Caruso), the psychological (Stephan Huber), and the conceptual (Piero Manzoni, Gianni Pettena and Stalker).
The Maps publication springs from a partnership between Museion and Castel Tirolo. The exhibition in Castel Tirolo entitled Symbol, power, mobility. Tyrol in historical maps presented the development of cartography in Tyrol from the sixteenth century, forging a fascinating dialogue between the contemporary period and the past.
