The weekend at Museion: come, relax and sew with us!
On occasion of the exhibition David Medalla. Parables of Friendship, the first European exhibition dedicated to the recently departed Filipino artist, every weekend visitors can make their mark on the work A Stitch in Time (1968), made of a long piece of embroidery that evolves as a participatory and colourful work of art.
From Saturday 9 April 2022
Every Saturday from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Beginning on Saturday 9 April, for the duration of the exhibition David Medalla. Parables of Friendship, every Saturday from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., visitors will be able to leave their own mark on the work A Stitch in Time (1968), an individual trace in the artwork, composed of an embroidery piece by the artist, which will then grow and evolve as a participatory and colourful work.
The active involvement of the public is a special opportunity to approach the visionary thinking of David Medalla, a theorist of an art and a society in which community is a constantly evolving process filled with diversity. According to the artist himself, A Stitch in Time is an action that makes it possible to enjoy a pleasant, relaxing moment and, thanks to this exhibition and this work, Museion can be experienced as a place of well-being in art. Participants – invited to sew personal messages or embroider colourful symbols on a long strip of fabric hanging from the ceiling, using a variety of materials – take part in a moment of individual creativity and collective exchange that reveals an interplay of contradictions, coincidences and transformations in contemporary society. Whether it be messages of love or friendship, answers to universal questions or simply one’s own name, everyone can take part in the evolution of Medalla’s work, in a colourful metaphor for our ever-changing and evolving society.
In addition to this performance, every Saturday and Sunday the museum also offers in-depth talks on the exhibition and introductions to A Stitch in Time (1968) that allow visitors to take an active part in the artist’s work. Museion thus becomes a space offering a special approach to the artist’s themes, a place for relaxation, exchange, and creativity.
