Workshop: My Place To Be

Walter Pichler was an internationally recognised artist. Born in the Eggental valley, he spent the first years of his life there. An architect with utopian visions, he occupied himself for many years with the idea of constructing a building in the valley where he grew up, to which he could return to live. He maintained a feeling about his birthplace that was to accompany him for the rest of his life. He honoured this feeling by designing a house next to the blacksmith’s shop where his uncle once worked, to serve as a retreat and a gathering place for the family.

“What is your place to be in Val D’Ega?” “Where would you “build” your ideal retreat?”. These are the questions that will accompany a group of young people from Val D’Ega in the collective action MY PLACE TO BE. It aims to create a large photographic collage of our “emotional” geography.

The launch of the project will take place on 16 July 2022 (the anniversary of Walter Pichler’s death) at 4 p.m. in the house next to the Forge. On this occasion, the participants will not only get to know the visionary artist, sculptor and architect better, but will also be introduced to the action, in which they will embark on a photographic research in complete independence. In the process, they take an unexpected look at their own place, the place they know and that makes them feel at home, from one exploration to the next during the summer. Using the iconic paper stencil of the house “Next to the Forge”, the young people look for personal points of view to enrich the narrative of a place. The photos will be collected by Museion at until 12 August 2022 and exhibited as part of the finissage of the exhibition Walter Pichler (1936 – 2012). Architecture – Sculpture. Haus neben der Schmiede, Val d’Ega at Museion – Passage from the 2nd to the 4th September 2022.
