On show are the winners of the prize that highlights the artists who have been active in the region of South Tyrol over the last twenty-five years.
The first prize goes to the artist Nicolò Degiorgis whose work, Mare Vostrum, will become part of the MAXXI Collection; the second and third prizes go to Silvia Hell, with the sculpture Voci di Corridoio (Voices in the Corridor), and Claudia Corrent, with the series of photographs Neanche il futuro purtroppo è più quello di una volta (Unfortunately, even the future is no longer what it once was): their works will be included in the permanent collection of Museion – Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Bolzano.
The first edition of the prize allowed for an in-depth look at the artistic panorama of South Tyrol through an analysis of the original and unique paths of a large group of artists.
The award is named after Piero Siena: painter, author, critic, art historian, manager, tireless campaigner and the founder of Museion. A figure who left a profound mark on South Tyrol’s cultural scene. His visionary spirit and determination were instrumental in bringing major projects such as Museion, Bolzano’s Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, to life, and in firmly establishing its collection. The prize is therefore a tribute to a leading figure of the 20th century who made love for art and free thinking the commitment of a lifetime.
