“TECHNO Conversations” is a series of periodic podcasts in which some of the many aspects linked to the history of raves and clubs, such as communities, economies, stories and trends are investigated through the testimonies of protagonists including theorists and reporters.

In episode 4, Katia Mullova interviews rhythmanalyst, media theorist and curator DeForrest Brown, Jr.

DeForrest Brown, Jr. is a producer, media theorist, and curator. Brown has released music both under his own name and with the Speaker Music moniker and he’s a representative of the Make Techno Black Again campaign. For this episode, he discussed with DJ and radio host Katia Mulluova some of the themes of Assembling a Black Counter Culture, to be released in 2021 by Primary Information Press. The book traces techno roots with a focus on Black experiences in industrialized labor, revisiting thinking and techniques behind key early players and placing them in conversation with the African-American working class in the historically emblematic city of Detroit.

Katia Mullova is a writer, DJ and radio host, who’s been exploring the musicality of clouds via Cashmere Radio since 2019.

Episode #4 of TECHNO Conversations is now on Podomatic and Spotify.
