Our work with the public at Museion is future-oriented and looks at current social events. Going beyond our exhibitions, the joint exchange with our public activates all activities, in an open, diverse, dialogical and interactive. The encouraged experiences follow the principle of an inclusive form of mediation that understands diversity and individuality as a social, collective and creative force.

Museion Art Club Young

Art weeks with Bolzanism Museum and Theatraki (6-10 years)

RENAISSANCE, Exhibition view Photo credits: Luca Guadagnini
Program 2024

Out of the museum and into culture: what really happens in summer in Bolzano? Is it really true that everything sleeps and we only dream of the sea? Creative and multidisciplinary moments are not only generated by brushes and colours, but they also awaken in other forms of artistic expression: theatre, the body, dance, sound and photography… through exciting experiences, boys and girls will experience surprising encounters and conquer the vast and colourful field of culture in the Museion as well as the city of Bolzano. Each week will include activities led by Museion’s mediation team, and two days of which will be spent with local cultural partners.

Summer 2024 activities will take place in cooperation with two theatre-related organisations: Bolzanism Museum and the association Theatraki - Children’s Theatre. The theme addressed is that of the body as an instrument of self-expression and knowledge of the world, which allows us to come into contact with reality and to become part of it. Bolzanism Museum invites us to ‘awaken the city’ through the narration of the history of Bolzano’s peripheral areas. Boys and girls are accompanied on a theatrical exploration of these places by the poems of ‘Aunt Mia’: an old inhabitant of the mythical Railwaymen’s Houses. The activity consists of two parts: ‘Kids Walk Siberia’, a walk led by young actresses/actors through the neighbourhoods to discover local architecture, and ‘Bolzanism Lab’, an activity in which children can get involved and reflect on the concept of ‘inhabiting’ the city. For Theatraki, theatre is a tool for getting to know one’s own body, prompting one to probe one’s own feelings, to control them and recreate them in expressiveness. Starting from the theme of the body, the forms of walking and the mask, we will experiment with theatrical languages and practices. On Friday afternoon, the children will organise a presentation and exhibition to celebrate the end of the week.

Museion Art Club Young offers children an enjoyable and self-managed encounter on current topics in art and society with actors from the region’s cultural scene. Building the Museion Art Club of tomorrow, children can already discover the local cultural network now and help creatively shape the future!

Summer lab (11-14 years)

Program 2024

In summer 2024, two young artists from Museion’s RENAISSANCE exhibition will accompany the girls and boys in the realisation of an individual creative project:

During the first week, the participants will work with artist Isabella Costabile (1991 New York, lives and works in Milan).  During the workshop, the artist will go in search of everyday objects and details considered ordinary. What potential and what narratives lie behind them? How sustainable can art be? As with her work in the exhibition, Isabella Costabile invites you to experiment and recombine discarded objects and materials. Various experiential moments and means of artistic expression will be activated, including creative design with discarded objects, photography, collage, creative writing and the staging of a final presentation of the work of and by the young participants.

The second week will be accompanied by Sophie Lazari (1997 Bologna, lives and works in Berlin), whose contribution to the exhibition takes up the spiritual phenomenon of ‘tarantismo’, which originated and developed in southern Italy. Her work explores the therapeutic aspects of music, dance and art, and how emotions can be expressed artistically: joy, sadness, anger and love - how do they arise and discharge in an individual way? Each day a different emotion will be proposed and investigated, activating creative processes through music, dance and movement, drawing, colour and much more. In July, Sophie Lazari will also contribute to her work with a dance performance in Museion as part of the Bolzano Danza festival.

Every year, during the summer holidays, Museion offers 2 themed practical-experimental weeks aimed at young people, which provide an opportunity to take a critical and sometimes ironic look at society together with artists, and to develop their own reflections through individual artistic work. Museion Art Club Young SummerLab is part of the Museion Art Club project and introduces young people to future-oriented fields of action in art, culture and society through special initiatives.
