The film shows the hands of the artist while she plays with the sun as if it were a camera lens, thereby calling into question the symbolic order attributed to the sun as a male principle of life.
The video is part of the Doing deculturalization exhibition. Marinella Pirelli (1925-2009) was one of the few prominent female figures in Italian experimental film. Her interest in the relationship between body, technologiy and light shaped her career.
The video screening is part of the exhibition Doing deculturalization, curated by Ilse Lafer. Doing Deculturalization’s point of departure is the writings of the Italian art historian and art critic Carla Lonzi (1931–1982), which had a major influence on the relationship between feminism and female Italian art. On show is the work of more than 40 contemporary and historical artists—archive items play an important role, in particular the Archivio di Nuova Scrittura (ANS), which is housed in Museion.
