For the exhibition BODY CHECK  - literally the control, the observation of the body - art historian Veit Loers researched the works and lives of two extraordinary artists such as Martin Kippenberger and Maria Lassnig.

Thanks to this careful investigation, new connections emerged between the two: “Both, Maria Lassnig and Martin Kippenberger, had as their objective to give a form to the misery of human existence: as a staging of the female and male body.”- thus writes Loers. Indeed, in a period in which abstraction prevailed, both constantly placed the body at the center of their work, particularly painting and drawing.

Thanks to his profound knowledge of him, in the guided tour Veit Loers reveals connections and differences between the work of two great artists such as Lassnig and Kippenberger, with many details, background and also biographical, historical-artistic and iconographic anecdotes.

Veit Loers is the 2018 guest curator at Museion. Loers (1942, Germany, lives and works in Italy), author, curator and art historian, was, among other things, director of the Fridericianum in Kassel (1987-1995) and curator of the Federal Republic of Germany for the collection of contemporary art.

Loers, an attentive and profound expert on the history of modern and contemporary art, hosted Martin Kippenberger’s last exhibition before his death in 1997 in the Museum Abteiberg in Mönchengladbach (Germany), which he directed (1995-2003).
