In over fifty years of career, John Armleder (1948, Geneva, Switzerland) has developed a work that goes beyond the codes of criticism and the art system to overcome the barriers between art and architecture, art and design, art and everyday objects.
His multifaceted practice is divided between painting, sculpture, environmental installations, performances, videos, critical texts and editorial and curatorial projects. Combining chance and design, high culture and entertainment, alienating irony and conceptual analysis, Armleder has questioned, throughout his career, the concept of the author and the idea of originality and uniqueness of the work of art. Despite having created an extremely heterogeneous corpus of works, all his works are fragments, different perspectives of a single, great work: plus ça change, plus c’est la même chose!
