Lottozero presents a series of three events at the Casa Atelier, each dedicated to a site-specific intervention by an artist and united by the recurrence of the textile element.

The artist Luca Vanello (Trieste, 1986, lives and works in Berlin) opens the series with Tired Eyes Dislike the Young. The installation, designed for the spaces of the Casa Atelier, investigates the relationship between human being and matter during the mourning process, in the phase of elaboration and acceptance of pain: it is in fact in the emotional turmoil that the material objects, belonging to the person who there’s more, they acquire a particular importance and meaning.

Vanello’s research starts from the most intimate phenomenon of anthropomorphism, i.e. the tendency to humanize inanimate elements, which can also occur in the mourning process as an attempt to overcome the loss. From here, the artist extends his research to probe the impact of the most recent digital technologies in today’s countless attempts to reach eternity, with increasingly extreme and paradoxical systems. Vanello’s installation, composed of different sculptural groups, takes the form of an ecosystem exploded into its material components which, in fragments, returns the evidence of a microscopic look at the vulnerability and precariousness of existence.

The materials scattered on the ground gather around large silicone skins. The cast of fabrics is imprinted on these: these are garments that belonged to a deceased person and kept for years by their partner. The artist brought the garments back to the state of textile fiber through the process of regenerating carded Prato wool, with which new fibers (and new yarn) are produced from the recycling of used clothes. All the materials present in the space, from the regenerated fibers, to the plants bleached because they are deprived of chlorophyll, up to the metal object that undergoes a speeded up oxidation process, to name just a few, are in fact the result of various manipulations of the temporal line of the collected objects : acceleration, inversion and suspension of the life cycle. The processes thus reflect man’s attempt to control time, and his inevitable failure.
