artiparlando 2014 - Da capo

The 2014 cycle questions how some of the prominent ambassadors of art and design imagine such new beginnings would be. The speakers at artiparlando 2014 are the Swiss designer Ruedi Baur, who, with his innovative ideas and also as a teacher, is an unmistakable figure in the international design context; the German art curator Kasper König, long-time director of the Museum Ludwig in Cologne and currently director of the European biennale for contemporary art Manifesta 10 (St. Petersburg, 2014), the art critic Carolyn Christov-Bakargiev, who works largely from Italy and was responsible for the important and much discussed documenta 2012 in Kassel; the Italian author and artist Nanni Balestrini, who from the outset combined socially critical positions with formal innovation in his diverse work; and finally the German philosopher Christoph Menken, who examines the (anarchic) “power” from which art draws, among other things in its tension with institutionalized forms of art presentation.

The question of a new beginning, which “Da capo” addresses, was already implicitly discussed in the 2013 artiparlando cycle, for example in connection with Massimiliano Gioni’s lecture on the 2013 Venice Biennale, which went far beyond the area of what is generally defined as contemporary art, or in the case of the lecture by Carol Yinghua Lu and Liu Ding, who - as in their exhibition “Little Movements II” - brought a number of well-known and less well-known artistic, art critical, art historical and publishing approaches to contemporary art to light.
