Museion

Event with interactive sessions, presentations, keynotes, DJ set & visuals to collaborate and get inspired.

Friday, March 3rd 2023, from 4 pm to midnight, Museion hosts Break the Silos#3 – Moving Mountains, a day of activities realized in collaboration with BASIS Vinschgau Venosta on the occasion of the closure of the exhibition Kingdom of the Ill. Following on from Break the Silos#2 Cultural Mycelium, which took place at Museion on 15.12.2022, Museion and BASIS invite local cultural activists to imagine the future cultural ecosystem in South Tyrol. Break the Silos#3: Moving Mountains – curated by Space of Urgency and Rural Radicals – aims to utilize what has emerged from previous meetings and picture the South Tyrol of 2025 by reinforcing the local subculture.

The event invites urban and cultural activists, artists, culture makers, collectives, social-cultural platforms, cultural institutions and political agents to nourish South Tyrol’s cultural mycelium. We will examine inspiring international approaches from Berlin, Vienna, Amsterdam and beyond, in terms of the launch of community-led platforms and good practices that simplify access to space. We will extract any expertise that may be key for Bolzano and turn it into feasible concepts that can merge with what is currently happening in the region. We want to picture what our cultural and spatial future(s) might look like and create a road map to get there.

Imagine the South Tyrol two years from now! A Region where culture, music and creative industries are seen as essential components of regional innovative growth. The perspectives of culture makers, innovators, city officials, youth workers, and under-represented groups have implemented an integral cultural vision. Thanks to this participation and growth, Bolzano has become a City of Music, with plenty of access to spaces in which the next generation of culture can bloom. The city is regionally and internationally renowned as a place where culture is accessible and attracts creative minds from all over the world.

This is the future we imagine, but we are not there yet. To cross-pollinate the mycelium sustainably, some mountains must first be moved. Even so, hopeful collaborative seeds have been sown, and the ground is fertile. But how can we convert a monoculture into polyculture? And how can we grow this cultural mycelium sustainably? How can we create an integrated vision that complements the existing cultural narrative? Let us work together to move mountains and grow South Tyrol’s cultural mycelium sustainably!
