artiparlando: Chris Dercon

Chris Dercon will speak on Thursday 13 September at 8pm in Museion Passage. Art historian, documentary maker and cultural producer, Dercon (Lier, Belgium 1958), has directed important institutions including Haus der Kunst in Munich, the Tate Modern, London and Volksbühne Berlin. In his speech entitled “Curating or instituting? What’s at stake?” (curator or institution? What is at stake?) will question cultural institutions and the role of curators today.

Which institutions and for what purposes do we need in complex times like today, with less investments - both in the public and private sector - and different disciplines that relate to the idea of the museum? These are the questions that Dercon will address, also in light of his writings, in which he dealt with the future of museums and cultural institutions, but also with the changes that have affected the role of the artist.
