Beijing Bicycle - Xiaoshuai Wang
On the occasion of the “Little Movements II” exhibition at Museion, the film by Chinese director Xiaoshuai Wang, winner of the Jury Prize and Silver Bear at the Berlin Film Festival in 2001, is presented.
The director offers a raw look at contemporary Beijing, recounting the little-known streets and alleys of China and the contradictions of Western consumerism that is invading the country. The reference to Italian neorealism and De Sica’s masterpiece “Bicycle Thieves” from 1948 is inevitable. The screening will be preceded by an introduction to the film by Renate Mumelter.
