Museion presents DUEL. Adam and Eve, the first act in the dance production, DUEL, born from the encounter between Abbondanza/Bertoni and the South Tyrolean sculptor Adolf Vallazza, organized in 2014 by the journalist Fabio Zamboni, to mark the artist’s 90th birthday. The performance will be revived within the Adolf Vallazza 100 exhibition, celebrating the artist’s 100th birthday.
The original work reinterpreted Genesis in three acts and three totems, but here, only the first act will be staged, showing the meeting of Adam and Eve. Inspired by the very first part of the Book of Genesis, also known as biblical prehistory, the performance sees two performers, a man and a woman, spinning backwards in time from the present day. These are the world’s very first man and woman and their relationship includes Adolf Vallazza’s monumental totem that is a clear reference to the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil.
The title DUEL also recalls the concept of duality, represented by its combination of wooden and bodily sculptures, matter and flesh that interact to create an osmosis of totemic and human works. The creative process has passed through the reciprocal possibilities of contemplation and dynamics in a synergistic search for the hallucination of a new beauty and new sentimental architectures.
As Adolf Vallazza said in 2014: (…) “Art is one, and it manifests itself in many forms: music, painting, sculpture, dance, and so on. It is beautiful, although not always easy, to mix different types of art. Antonella and Michele have succeeded, because they understand my work and its spirit. My sculptures are created to be touched, caressed, felt, experienced and smelled. Not just displayed and looked at. It was wonderful when Eva became almost one with my totem, combining youth and ancient wood, life and a tree that died decades or even centuries ago.”
