Preview presentation of the monograph published for the centenary of the birth of the South Tyrolean artist.

The new bilingual monograph (Italian and German), published on the occasion of the hundredth anniversary of the birth of the artist Karl Plattner (Malles Venosta, 1919-Milan, 1986) is edited by the Bolzano-born critic, photographer and film-maker Fulvio Vicentini and is published from Nuove Arti Grafiche Gardolo. The publication proposes a new approach to the artist’s work.

In fact, the focus is on Plattner’s connection with his environment and in particular on how his works were received in his homeland and by his contemporaries. The volume also contains a little-known exchange of letters between the artist and important South Tyrolean personalities, which occurred following the defacement of the fresco created by Plattner for the chapel in the Naturns cemetery, representing the deposition.

On the occasion of the presentation at Museion, Thursday 14 February, the work “Die tote Mutter” by Karl Plattner, preserved in the Museion Collection, will be exhibited. The curator of the monograph, Fulvio Vicentini and Martina Adami, art historian and author of a contribution in the catalogue, will speak during the meeting. This will be followed by testimonies and memories from various personalities, including the journalist Arnold Tribus, the scholar Marjan Cescutti and Roland Buratti, who will read his father Josef’s text: “We were contemporaries with Karl”.
