Museion opens its Autumn season with an exhibition featuring the collection of the famous explorer Erling Kagge “WALKING. Movements North of Bolzano”
On Friday 11th September at 7pm Museion will unveil WALKING. Movements North of Bolzano”, an exhibition featuring the private collection of Erling Kagge, the famous Norwegian explorer, who is also an art lover, an internationally acclaimed author and an independent publisher. Museion has embraced these multiple interests and vocations by inviting Erling Kagge to curate an exhibition on the most significant artistic positions that have influenced him over the years.
For the show, Kagge has selected over 60 works by 30 artists from Northern Europe (including paintings, drawings, photography and sculpture) in a fascinating journey that stretches from Oslo to Bolzano. The exhibition features artists that are rarely displayed in Italian museums and is therefore in line with Museion’s mission to shine a broader light on the production of contemporary art.
Erling Kagge will attend the opening in person. Following the opening of the exhibition, between 9 and 10pm the Museion Media Façade will screen the video Paralyzed by the artist Klara Lidén (b. Stockholm, 1979), from the Kagge Collection. The video shows the artist dancing wildly in a compartment of the Stockholm subway while the other passengers look on, some curious, some indifferent.
As is typical of the artist, this irritating action breaks, for an instant, the rules and models of social and physical interaction in a certain location. This same disturbing, but ironic perspective can be found in many of the other works displayed in the Kagge collection exhibition. Museion staged a solo exhibition by Klara Lidén in 2013.
